Jenny The plain version is this: the digital portfolio tool helped students get better at art, and it didn't mostly help the already-advantaged kids. Artistic competence grew by two point three four points per month in the intervention group, versus zero point four one in the control group, with p under point zero zero one, which means the result is very unlikely to be random, and an effect size d of point nine four, which is large.

Jenny So this belongs in Measure Before You Scale, but with a warning label. Four hundred twenty students and a mediation model give the claim some weight, but the authors are not proving that choir or instrumental lessons raised grades; they're showing that music participation lines up with the habits that make school feel more manageable.
Jenny That's still useful for a principal. Protect music because it may support engagement and self-control, not because one survey can magically turn it into a guaranteed test-score machine.

Davis But with only one group and no separate control class, how much can we credit the pop-up books themselves?
