Those fingerprints pointed away from fresh vehicle or combustion emissions and toward oxidized mining-derived particles, and then the biology test mattered too: zebrafish embryos exposed to dust extracts had elevated heart rates even under sublethal conditions, meaning the dose wasn't killing them but it was still changing their bodies. The evidence is strong for this one mining landscape, but it doesn't tell us how common the same classroom pattern is in other mining regions.

So the practical takeaway is blunt: if a mine is being monitored, the classroom has to count as part of the exposure zone, not as shelter from it. That's the unequal daily exposures thread again, where risk follows kids through the doorway and the policy map stops too early.
